Who Pays for the Class?

PDS Program fees are paid by class Participants. Unless you have been given other instructions by your Probation Officer or Referring Agency, you will need to pay the program fee to Personal Development Seminars (PDS) as described in the next section. If you have been advised that the referring agency is paying for your class, please contact us to confirm, 1-800-737-4803 or 1-800-775-3220.

Will DPS Accept a PDS Certificate for Driver's License Reinstatement?

PDS classes are often required by Prosecutors as a condition of a plea agreement and/or by Judges as part of a sentence, and as a condition of probation or parole.

PDS classes are not the same as the Drug Offender Education Program or the DWI Education Program that is sanctioned by the Texas Dept. of State Health Services(TDSHS).

If your Driver's License has been suspended due to a DWI or Drug Offense conviction, Do Not expect the Texas Dept. of Public Safety (DPS) to accept your PDS certificate of completion for the purpose of reinstatement.

The Texas Transportation Code states:

Sec. 521.374. EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM. (a) A person whose license is suspended under Section 521.372 may attend an educational program, approved by the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse [now Texas Dept. of State Health Services] under rules adopted by the commission and the department, that is designed to educate persons on the dangers of drug abuse.

(b) The period of suspension or prohibition under Section 521.372(c) continues for an indefinite period until the individual successfully completes the educational program.

Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, Sec. 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.

Participants are often required to complete a PDS program to satify the Court and a TDSHS program to satisfy the DPS.

What if I miss class or have to reschedule for some reason?

If you fail to attend the class you were scheduled for, you can call to be rescheduled for the next class and an additional $15.00 reset fee will be added to your class fee. Be sure to confirm the reset date and total fee owed. If you call to reschedule at least 48 hours prior to class, no reset fee will be added. Note: PDS will only reset your class date two time and each reset adds $15.00 to the fee. After the 2nd missed class, you will have to pay all outstanding fees prior to being scheduled for a new class date. In addition, you may be required to have the referring agency contact us to confirm your commitment to attend the reset class date. Resets in some locations are limited or prohibited by agreement with policies and practices of the referring agency. You should contact your referring agency (probation, parole, Judge, DA, etc.) regarding their policy on resets and missed classes.

Can I get a refund if I no longer need the class?

Refunds are handled on a case by case basis. In most situations, if a refund is approved, PDS will deduct an administrative fee of $20.00 plus any reset fees due at that time. If PDS has provided you or your attorney with a letter confirming your enrollment and you later request a refund due to no longer needing the class, you must provide documentation from the Court or Referring Agency noting that the class is no longer required and/or the case is dismissed. You will also be subject to a $40.00 adminstrative fee plus any reset fees due for missed class(es).
